Not bad prices considering what they are.

98% of all Land Rovers built are still on the road.
The other 2% made it home.
Cost difference between Britpart and Genuine seals: £2.04. Knowing that your brakes won't fail at any moment: Priceless.
My plans are to fly out and secure two Land Rover Perenties. Take a month and kit them up for touring. Just a few items I plan on adding are Power Steering, Hi Tuff or Ashcroft axles, stub shafts and cv joints. To that add a Detroit to the rear and Ashcroft front air lockers ect ect ect. plenty of fuel and water storage. you get the point.
By the time I'm done the family will arrive (wife and two children). We will then start off on the Cape York trail. That's as far as I have got on my plans. The wife loves the idea of camping on or near a beach along the way or at the end of a trail. I've just started planning for the trip which will be in two years do to work commitments. But after that I fully plan to take a much long needed vacation. I plan a minimum of two months after the family arrives. I suspect 3 to 4. Still not enough time.
I've decided upon the Perentie Land Rover as the base of our two rigs. The Isuzu Diesel the LT95 trans and Galvanized frames pretty much make these Land Rovers the best in my book. So far I have not decided on which model. I then see this 6x6 crew cab and thought I may go with one rig. BUT they seem pretty rare and are as wide as the other 6x6 Perenties. So I most likely will go with either the standard 110 or the Surveillance 110. So that's my plans to date. I've already built them on paper with the 6x6 done the same just with an additional locker and two freeze fridges vs. the single on the 4x4.
A few things I need to work out are how I can purchase and drive legally in Australia. Registration and all. This may be my biggest hurdle I have not tried to jump yet.
G'Day Outback.
If you are looking at 4x4 then buy a couple of RFSVs (Truck Surveillance, Lightweight) They are ready to go. Add the rear Detroit if you want. Uness you are going mud running or rock crawling, you don't need the front locker.
CVs and axles aren't the strongest but they are in no way weak.
The 6x6s don't have the specs (even with lockers etc) for Double black diamond tracks without spending a large sum on prepping and numerous repairs.
If you are considering taking them home, you will need to wait a couple of years. Word of warning!
Check your VINS and them check them twice against the US listings. Land Rover began stockpiling chassis for modification a couple of years early. This means that some are listed as 1985-86 with a body Compliance plate stating 1988-91. I am sure you know what will happen when they see this on arrival Stateside.

Thanks Barefoot Dave. Im not sure if I will ship them home (thanks for the heads up on the difference in frame dates). I will most likely sell them to some lucky individuals. I plan to fully kit them up properly. I agree about the Surveilance models as they have most of the gear I like. I would like to increase the size of at least one of the longe range tanks.
Maybe I should start a thread on my plans.
Not wrong about fuel tank size. There is a reason they were updated with twice the jerry can storage! With the load you will have and the area you are going through, plan on 15L/ 100 ks. One alternative that is an easy option is the fitment of a Drop tank in the Spare wheel position. No mods required, just a small transfer pump to the main tank. You will still have 2 spares. Just carry a couple of extra tubes and you are away.
I spent a few years in the RFSVs in the area you are visiting. Hit me up if you need any advice.
There is another option developing. I know a bloke that has bought a fleet of 4x4 (incl. RFSV) and 6x6 Perenties and Isn't planning on invading anyone
PM me your contact details and I will give you the info as things develop.
Cheers, BDave.

By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.
