    Perentie clutch

Got an 89 Perenti absolutely love it but she's struggling with the clutch on hills. Gets a bit smelly but it's not slipping.

Also it drops out of third occasionally.

Anyone else have any similar problems?

I'm thinking about throwing a new clutch in but I'd rather save my money if I can

If you can smell it, it has to be slipping. Jumping out of gear usually means end float problems on the mainshaft - is it under or off throttle when it does it - my guess is off.

Yeah you got it! Off throttle. It'll be in gear and I take my foot off the accelerator around a corner and if I put it back on it's jumped out?

Yes, that is about what it costs. And that is not including any major items like mainshaft replacement. Labour is the main factor. A lot of hours involved in rebuilding one of these - just cleaning it before disassembly takes some hours. Make sure the local mod know about setting up the TRB intermediate shaft. I have heard some interesting stories about how some "reputable" places have set up the intermediate shaft. Also insist that they use a genuine gasket set and genuine synchro rings.

Sounds like a bit of a nightmare! I wonder what other boxes would fit.

I'd like to pull the lot out and put a Lexus V8 in or something!

I wouldn't swap it for anything else Rob. The Isuzu plus LT95 is a great combination in this vehicle. Stick with it.

I was just throwing it around wasn't serious I'm a sucker for keeping vehicles original anyway.

I would like a turbo though!

You guys tried turning the idle up a little to get rid of the low idle shakes?
