Replacement interval for Donaldson filter elements

Just wondering what the consensus is with regard to replacing the primary and safety elements within the Perentie air filter housing (the Donaldson unit); wait till till the impedence indicator shows in the fitted Servi-Signal unit, or replace at set intervals e.g. 20k kms?
I've purchased a replacement primary and safety element (Fleetguard) to have on hand with the intent to replace the existing elements at some point in time. After removal I plan to try and have the existing units chemically cleaned by a local filter service firm to have as future replacements/spares.
Be interested to hear what others do; I had concerns (probably unfounded) that the Servi-Signal may be faulty and I'd never know.

    Cheers, Dave

    I believe it's a personal thing.
If you look at the EMEI it says to "clean" every 10,000 or 24 months.
Some filter experts say an air cleaner is most efficient at 80% plugged (blocked) so your better off going by the air filter restriction gauge.
Other people may clean it every day or every second day when working in very dusty conditions.
It really does depend on the environment your working in.
I personally would do it every 20k kms or earlier on condition.
    Hope this helps

P.S. I know it's been posted on here before but I can't find it, does anyone have the filter cross Reference chart for the 4x4 and 6x6's filters for Donaldson ?

    Thanks in advance,

    Tristan H

I pulled the air filter housing out the other night and removed the existing primary and safety elements (both Donaldson units). They were installed in late August 2011 based on the date scribbled in permanent marker on each. I was very surprised at what good condition both were in; certainly far cleaner than I would have expected for 4 years in service. Maybe Towsville-based vehicles didn't hit the dirt too much.
I installed a new primary and safety element (both Fleetguard units) in order to benchmark them, and reset the Servi-signal indicator.
I will hopefully get the Donaldson units chemically cleaned for use a spares/ next time replacement.
    Cheers, Dave

Tristan, Both 4x4 and 6x6 share the same secondary or safety element, but have different numbers for the primary one. Its actually the same filter with the plastic cyclone fin setup on the opposite end of the filter. I will post up the Donaldson part numbers on Saturday when I get back home.

    Thanks Brian,
And I've found that the turbo and non turbo engines have different engine oil filters too which surprised me. I thought I was going to get away with carrying the same filters in the shed for all 3 vehicles.

While we're on the topic, which Servi-signal indicator should I be using? Mine doesn't have one at all...

Yes, that's true. Yet a lot of the na truck engines had the setup same as the 6by.

I trip my 20" at any load, SteveG trips his 25" if he has his snorkel fitted.. I'm not sure if 30" is too much??

But here is where you can get them:
