    Christmas disappointment :(

Just went to change a headlight bulb. Mistake. Discovered that both sides have rusted to the point that the bowls disintegrated. The wiring harnesses for the bulbs are completely melted. One has actually been on fire, but remarkably enough, that lightbulb was the one that still worked. The reflectors in the light housing are also rusted, which explains why a glow worm would have laughed at my lights.

So now I need new headlights, and my planned trip over Christmas is cancelled

As far as I can tell for the full kit [bowl, light unit, gasket etc) the part numbers are BAU2144 RHS and AEU1742 LHS.

can anyone verify this at all before I order them?

Can't you still go on your trip and travel during the day? A bit of a bodge on the wiring should be enough to make a globe light up to keep it technically roadworthy?
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

I swapped my Lucas bowls for Wipac Crystal halogens, re-did the wiring with a traxide kit and put 100w lamps in.

That might not help you though, as shipping from the UK may take some time.

pop down to Autobarn or similar and pick up a couple of H4 headlights.

Grab some new plugs while you're at it, some joiners and some wire.
    That'll get you by.

The whole bowl literally disintegrated on one side (i think a combination of rust and mud was holding it together) and split in two on the other.
Nothing left to hold a bulb in or focus it .

All is well. Borrowed another car from my folks for a week. Just really wanted to take the Perentie.
A couple of emails have confirmed that those numbers are correct, so I've ordered a set from LRDirect and will pick up some +130 bulbs sometime as well.

I guess the upshot is that I'll be able to see where I'm going at night

The bowl is probably a bog standard Lucas item. Go to any wrecker with old British cars.

I got some (free) off an old Hillman when I changed my '86 Rangie's aluminium grille to a later plastic grille. See Range Rover Grille Conversion

Make sure if you put in the 130 globes that you use relays and replace ALL the wiring to the new globes. You can use the old wiring for the switch side of the relay, but don't even think about using anything but relays and good wiring with the new globes.

They are just a standard 7" round headlight, do what Mick suggested or if you want to be really cheap, just buy some 7" 60/55W sealed beams, they are dirt cheap.

The whole light is a Narva or Hella part. Call SCA, Repco etc. You should be able to buy bulb, curved mounting plate & H4 socket/bulbs. You could also consider fitting relays to take load off the switch.
