    Here we go again...

After offloading the Range Rover to some madman up in NSW, the hankering for a Solihull product never quite went away. Recently I find myself more and more wanting a sturdy old 110 with an Isuzu lump under the bonnet...

Having read through some of the posts in the forum, i'm now at the stage where i'm about to try and locate my future vehicle. There's a rather nice one on Carsales, a bit above my budget, but it already has RWC and four months rego (plus it's had a nifty matt black paint job, which was on my to-do list). And there are some ex-auction ones down at AWM in Geelong which i'm planning on going to see on the weekend.

I'm leaning towards the ready-to-go option, as I figure once i've faffed around getting an unregistered and potentially incomplete vehicle up from Geelong, spent a bit of coin getting it through a roadworthy etc., it all evens out. I was thinking of waiting until the next AFM auction down this way but that could be months and I have camping and off-roading trips I want to partake in before too long.

I guess the point of this post is to say hi, and ask the forum for some guidance. I know my way around a car, and I know my way around a 110 (it's been a while though). One thing I know very little about however is the Isuzu 3.9, so any assistance would be gratefully received...

its a heavy lump of engine that eats the gearbox that you could use to beat chuck norris to death for breakfast.

feed it air and fuel and it just gets on with making noise and power.

I considered going interstate as part of my search as the next auction was in NSW. Then figured it would cost me an arm and a leg to get it home.

Found two listed on Carsales within a couple of k's of my house. Just off to look at the one of interest now...

    And i'm back...

Only took two and a half hours, most of which was spent drinking beer and talking rubbish with the dealer.

Had a good crawl over and under, it's ridiculously intact and in good nick. Full books (wow, just wow at the amount of detail - some log entries were five pages!), toolkits, jack, batteries and all present.

Bit of a leak from one of the front hub/axle joints, which just looks like the bolts need tightening.

Goes into low-range well, back into high fine although it did pop out once when pulling out of a junction.

Steering isn't as heavy as i've been lead to believe although I won't be doing the supermarket run in it. Acceleration is perfectly acceptable (I already own two things that yield me speeding tickets). So that's $4k i've no need to spend. Yet.

Just need to get locks and an immobilizer sorted out and she'll be ready for adventures!

It's not the same buying of a dealer as getting your own from the auctions .You will probably pay an extra $3,000 for it and usually there is no warranty with it. Also there is more status owning one direct from the MOD than being the 3rd owner.Cheers from the bush animal
