    Wet rear axle caps

    The Left rear axle cap has been greasy/damp since I bought it (no drips)

    I just noticed that the right rear is now the same. No leaks on the inside of the wheel/brake drum.

    Is this something to worry about? If so, what needs fixing.

    also, I've checked the diff fluid level and it appears none is missing (was changed about 10 months/5000km ago.

    I had a similar occurrence on my 130, I read the manual and it said to ensure the diff breather line is clear and blow out if necessary.
    I thought it was clear but blew out anyway and when I reinserted the tube I only pushed it in enough to seal , ensuring the tube wasn't touching the axle.
    No more weeping occurred !
    Aren't manuals great !

    I also had this issue my caps were in bad condition replaced them no more problem

    A light smear of silicon fixed the problem.

    I did the same mick but mine were cracked all over so there was more than a light smear applied got me home from katherine to perth though

    Wait. Where were you smearing grease?

    Looks like ALL mine are totally blocked up. Do you just pull them off the fitting on the diff/gb etc and run new lengths?

    Also, those fittings they plug into; can you buy them?

    And while I'm asking questions, is it possible to get a fill plug for the transfer case that has a flange on it? Mine just screws into the fill hole without any gasket etc and it weeps, which is annoying as it's the only leak in the entire car (except the winch, which is still dripping after being emptied a year ago :/) .

    I think the plug had some silicone or something on it, and after changing the oil a couple of times, that has worn off and that is why it's leaking/weeping. I'd prefer a flange type that I can fit a gasket too, but if that's not available, I suppose I'll have to resort to silicone again.
    Is there a special tape that is oil/heat resistant that you can use? Not sure that I'd trust plumbers tape in there.


    Re: the winch. Haven't taken it anywhere to need it so far. Health and other issues have stopped me. Plus it has always leaked so I've never bothered to fill it until I can find out where it's leaking from and how to fix it.
