Do u have insurance with free windscreen? If not then get truckies insurance details and claim on his insurance. Ive done this twice before in my life. Cost me nothing both times. Just letting you and others know that this is an option with broken windscreens. At least it used to be. Ive also on one of the occasions gotten one of my driving lights and a headlight replaced at the same time as he threw up a shower of stones. Hope this helps you and others.

    Cheers Rod

Replaced mine a year ago. I was quoted $350 at that major windscreen mob in NSW. Went to the local panelbeater (country town) and had the job done for $290.... we were able to reuse the seal.
I found when getting the quote that their computer system listed a couple of different windscreen model numbers alleged to fit the GS, with a large variance in pricing. Sounds to me like you are being quoted for the expensive one. Might be worth asking again... Good Luck
