A particular fellow keeps telling me and others to use Penrite HPR30.

I can't recall the reasons but he did say he has rebuilt a fair few LT95s. I believe he use too hang around these parts... also.

One other question.. And I may make this a new thread.

having some trouble from the bits of manuals I've managed to get together.

Need to locate the following:

Engine sump drain plug: found
gearbox drain plug: possibly found
transfer drain plug: not found
Ball joint drain plug: not found

Gearbox fill plug:not found
Transfer fill plug: not found
Ball joint fill plug: not found

No need for a new thread.

They are all there, just keep looking. The gearbox ones are all on the passenger side.

Have you got the Isuzu DVD from the shop?

transfer drain plug: not found-----on the lowest point of the plate on the bottom of the transfer case, or if it has a winch the same size bung as the gearbox just under the pto shaft flange.
Ball joint drain plug: not found---the small square headed bung at the bottom of the ball joint.

Gearbox fill plug:not found-- There is a plate on the left side of the gearbox, the brass bung up towards the top is the fill plug, The steel one under it is the magnetic plug, pull it out and check it for metal when you do the oil change.
Transfer fill plug: not found------The square bung on the rear middle of the transfer case, usually just above the serial number,
Ball joint fill plug: not found----- square bung at front middle of the ball joint

See that's not hard - you're not looking hard enough!!!

So... what goes where? - I have a stack of Castrol 15w40 (apparently what military put in these) ready to go in engine and gearbox and 90w for transfer, diffs and front ball joints.

For the swivel housings, you'll have to check. Many (Most i believe) of them were converted to grease housings, rather than oil.
If you have a grease one, you need this - One Shot swivel grease, one sachet per housing.


Put oil in one and it will leak like a sieve. pretty easy to tell, take plug out and poke a stick there, or have a look through your logbooks if you have one and it should tell you if the mod was done. I forget which number it is on the mod plate.

Otherwise, 15w40 diesel oil (NOT synthetic) in the engine/gearbox and transfer case 90w gear oil in the diffs.

OK, so engine, gearbox and transfer now have castrol GTX 15w40 in them.

Gearbox has lost that "spongy" feel and it much easier to shift.
the oil looked ok, and the plastic strainer had a few dark particles and a couple of tiny flecks of shiny stuff - no teeth floating around in it.

Transfer case oil was very dark and smelly, and had a small amount of glitter in it. I would guess that the transfer case has had a comfortable amount of wear.

Engine oil had been in there a while, and looked a bit like thin crude.
found a nippon Z419 filter that's about 20mm shorter than the original.

I drained the fuel sedimenter, but have yet to remove and clean it - there was about 150ml of water in it.

next on the list - removing and replacing the felt washer in the shaft to flange nut on the tailshaft to stop oil flinging off handbrake drum. (yes I know I'll have to empty the transfer case again - I have plenty of oil.

fuel filter, diffs, ball joint's not yet done - tips welcome as always.
