Thread: 80 CH UHF CB Radio - Group Buy?

Im just floating this, with no real intent to drive it unless I am convinced otherwise, but.....

It strikes me that if there is ever an opportunity to leverage our forum numbers, this is it. There will be amongst us, a significant need (Assumption on my behalf being tested now) to acquire 80 Ch (12.5khz ch width) UHF CB Radios. We would also represent, I would think, a significant marketting tool to the radio providers in saying, well "'x' many people from AULRO bought ours, why wouldnt you?".

So I was thinking a group buy, or even a competitive tender, or possibly a standing offer. Now, who has comments, who is interested....and who wants to run it? As i said, I will, but would stand aside for someone more driven, or perhaps someone with better contacts in the comms world.

To do this properly, we would need to:

1. Agree to act as a group.
2. Agree on a requirements list (a simple list of essential, important, and desirable features)
3. Engage the market.

Completing that process would probably see us ready to "buy" early next year.

And for the forum gurus, or moderators, Is it possible to have a poll in this thread to garner a rough interest in no.s?

IMHO this facility has more creedence than it deserves. I can't see what the big deal is. Ultimately it is just more of the same.

I agree entirely with you ADMIRAL.
If you are using a CB in a large city then more channels may be good. In sleepy old Adelaide if we had 20 channels it would be more than enough

Seriously though...
I only use CB when I am in a convoy or travelling. Good to be able to talk to the truckies and any other travellers etc.

I, and I suspect most 4wd people have no use for an extra 40 channels.

This has been discussed before on this forum etc.
Will the extra channels be useably?
If all users changed to the new channel spacings then maybe, but with thousands of 40 channel units out there it may be many years before you can use those extra channels.

I wonder where this idea came from? Was it industry driving it? Do they think we will all rush out and buy new sets? I can't see the ACMA coming up with this off their own bat.
