    looking at ICOM IC-440

I need to get a UHF radio with te landrover club and I have been eyeballing the above unit. I like the fact that the actual unit is hidden away and just the handheld is seen.

Has anyone got any personal experience with one of these or know if they are any good?

At $720-00 installed and comes with 2 antannas while not cheap it was raved about (by the salesman)

    Excellent UHF
Very good handset and the mic and speaker are both very clear and plenty of volume. It's an easy enough unit to install yourself. What vehicle is it going into?

They are a great unit - I have one.

You need to double check your pricing though. Mine was $410 from Prestige Communications in WA -aerial was another $70 odd. It took me about 15mins to install it - a monkey could do it.

You will need to carry the handbook with you for more complex tasks but basic stuff is very easy.

Yep had my heart set on one too. Ended up buying a Uniden UH012SX + aerial and it came with a 1 watt hand held as part of the deal. Very happy with the result and installed it all myself on a weekend. Half the price of what you quoted fitted for the Icom. The Icom is probably a better radio but...................

The Icom is a great unit. Very clear and easy to find your way around. I also picked mine up from Prestige.

I was going to get mine from Prestige but then a local mob (Brisbane) matched them price-wise. Great radio but put some time into researching the aerial you want (need).
