I am looking at the current TX3340 deal with the radio and antenna. With the 80 channel change coming in do I wait for new radios supporting the new scheme or buy now?
find one that is programmable at 12.5 khz intervals, then you can program the extra channels when the time comes, i have done this with my 5 watt handheld
when are the 80ch due to be released?
how much more expensive are the 80's?
i reckon go the 40uhf, that way you can start using now
it will take a few years before users even consider upgrading to the 80 channel, i wont be upgrading until my 40ch dies which means i may never upgrade.......once your out of the city 40ch traffic is low
hopefully the 40's will become super cheap
Wait till the 80 ch ones are released and thn buy a 40 channel one at run out prices....
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Under the current draft standards it will be illegal to use an older 40 channel set in 5 years time. The new standard is expected to comes into force on 1 Jan 2011. It is likely the new sets will come on sale soon after. The major manufacturers are already discounting the old sets. It will be illegal to sell them after 1 Jul 2011 though several of the submissions to the ACMA review of the channell changes have asked for a longer period in which to get rid of the old stock (up to 1 year). You will find the draft standard here: http://www.acma.gov.au/webwr/_assets...ndard_2010.pdf
I am waiting for the new ones.

Grab an ebay job to tide you over
I know its OT.. But I can't imagine many people stopping using their 40chan just because they are suddenly made illegal.
Hercules: 1986 110 Isuzu 3.9 (4BD1-T)
Brutus: 1969 109 ExMil 2a FFT (loved and lost)
I would too. I'm actually clearing said deal myself. I want to get one as I get it cheap but I would much rather spend $600 and last me forever than $300 odd over the next 5 years and then another $600 odd again....
Just get a cheap one 2nd hand from fleabay or local classifieds or even your local 2way mobile installer. Quite often they have plenty of old serviceable units from trucks etc.
I'm transferring my Uniden remote face from the RRC into the D2 then going full house 80 on the RRC when they're released.

Sent from my mobile stone using smoke signals!!
The proposed new regulations say that equipment onsale before the proposed date will remain legal untill 1/1/2016 it does not say they become illegal after that sect 7 sub section 3 says that if resold they will have to meet the new regs. I think 40 ch radios will be in use for a long time to come as some one said they will keep using old stuff untill it breaks![]()
The way I read it is that the only meaningful interpretation of sec 7 is that after 1/1/2016, the earlier 40 channels sets will no longer comply with the standard, and as such could not be legally used as only equipement complying with the standard may be used.
ACMA state (see ACMA - IFC 23/2010 for further information):
The purpose of these arrangements is to stop the supply and resupply of 25 kHz equipment in a relatively short period while giving suppliers a reasonable opportunity to clear existing stocks. The arrangements will also ensure that legacy 25 kHz equipment will comply with the mandatory standard up to 1 January 2016, supporting the use (but not supply or resupply) of such equipment until that date. From 1 January 2016, everyone will be required to use 12.5 kHz equipment only.
