    Any experience with Mini-Discs?

I've got a Sony Mini-Disc system that used to belong to my son. My cassette deck is dead so I was thinking of installing the MD player/recorder.

But is it worthwhile? I'd have to buy some MDs as I think I gave away all of the one my son had when we were doing a clean up.

They are excelent IVE still got a sony deck unit and a couple of portable players, not quite the audio quality of CD but vastly more portable. Unfortunately now a nearly dead format because of MP3 players that do the same thing for longer and at lower cost.

The audio compression used to get the data stream down was a for runner for MP3. The PSP uses a similar format.

Thanks Dave. I was thinking MD as it's easier to record off-air than with a PC and MP3 player.

sometimes, newer MP# players have the ability to do one press capture from their radio, even my phone can do it.

the top end players get something like 8 hours of mono onto the larger capacity discs (74 minutes or something like that)

I used to have a Sony unit connected to the hi-fi, a MD head-unit in the car and a portable unit too.

Excellent format, far more convenient than CDs and the media was less susceptible to danage in the trash racks of a Defender!!. Im sure had it not been for MP3's it would have taken off more.

    RIP Mini-Disc's

I generally use my iPhone these days, but I still occasionally use my MD.
I concur with Dave's post. I can't tell a difference, and they're inherently tougher than a CD. Especially if you're married to someone who's congenitally unable to put CD's away properly.
