    Has yours arrived yet ?

    - I yielded to Temptation... ordered my UV-5R last night, with the software USB....and a cloning cable.- The latter may be a bit ambitious.

    - Supposed to arrive between now and the end of the month.

Well, my new to... er BAOFENG UV-5R has finally arrived... now the fun of programming it.

    - Before I inflict such misery upon myself, has anyone managed the whole 80 channels, including setting repeater offsets etc ?

Any and all pointers will be gratefully received by myself and another (highly respected) member. - we tried to do his a couple of weeks ago, but progress was somewhat lacking... - Something to do with his loquaciousness conflicting with remaining hours in the day...

    Notwithstanding, the coffee was excellent.

    James the Luddite.

Edit:- The embarrasment of it all... My DVD/CD drive has died, and its not even built by Lucas.
    - #1 son has tried for 2 hours...and given up in disgust. - Claims the lack of communication is due to the cable being a fake.

Use the chirp software to program the Baofeng - if you need an image file for chirp with the 80 channels, pm me.

In that list it shows the channels programmed as wide. For 80 channel CB they should be narrow. At the very least, in the transition period, the new channels should all be narrow.

a picture is worth a thousand words - hope that this is helpful if you are manually entering your channel list?

I should add that another poster (Fluids) did all the hard work on this from a previous thread - I just copied the file and loaded it into the program... Thanks again Fluids!

    cheers

Thanks for that. - I had a sort of mental block about whether to have the duplex channels as Simplex - it makes more sense to leave them permanantly set for Duplex..- One less thing to muck up with.

The Big Problem seems to be communicating with the radio via the cable. - #1 son entered and saved all the data.

Bought mine from evilbay and 'radiogearpro'. Not a bad shipping time.

EDIT:- Howard, that attachment above.... is that a screenshot of the program info that's downloaded onto your radio? - Have a look at channel 32 and 40. - the oDd extra digit has wandered in.

Or do I need glasses... - Guess where I'm up to with manually programming mine... :-)

    Baofeng or Wouxun

    Hi Guys,

As a novice can I ask are the Baofeng UV5R and Wouxon KR-UV6D comparable units in performance and features or are they in different leagues.

    Thank you . Ricsto

There seems to be more/better support and info on the Wouxon. I've got the Baofeng.... and not having much success in getting it to communicate with either software.
Baofeng is physically smaller, and more 'square'-shaped.

UV-5R's are lots cheaper... just need a 14 year old nerd with an interest in amateur radio...
