    I worked under the call sign VP2LIQ Maritime Mobile for 10 years but I guess that does not count. Had my last QSO and went QRT for the final time in Jan 1980 when we sailed into Mooloolaba.

    Remember when you could walk into Dick Smiths and pick up a brand new Kenwood TS520 for $500.

    This one remembers that, too. I used to visit every time I flew across the ditch. We had a crowd called DJ Reid over there - not quite as good for the ham operators...

    There is a scout hall opposite my house, and every now and then, gets chock full of cars, and a lot with all sorts of ariels on them, (including a nice D2) .... and the Hills Amateur Radio Group were having some kind of event, swap meet thing. they had a sweet radio base station in there, cool stuff for sale.. now i want to get a ham licence.

    In Australia is easy to get a foundation licence, ask to any ham at the scout hall. In my case it started as a hobby... and it ended being a job.
