Your reception issues sound like an antennae problem to me.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

All the fittings are pretty good.

I'm just not sure if I'm getting the best reception. Reception is better than my 2w Uniden handheld but I haven't really compared it to another 5w fixed setup in my area.

Might do some more tests this weekend with the kids to test the range and quality.

We use channel 16 and 17 @ work, there's always communication between despatch/allocater to the shunt drivers,24/7

There's a bloke from Coogee and he can be heard all over Sydney and he always uses 17.
Wish the authorities would shut him down permanently. He can talk and its mostly garbage.

    cheers

Perth is not any quieter. Being used to country WA where you do get the occassional idiots but not that often due to distance. In Perth I generally have it turned off because you do either get the people short of a bob or two carrying on, picking fights and swearing like there is no tommorow. Then there are the truck drivers which is OK but every second word is f or c. Generally I dont even turn mine on any more.
There needs to be some regulation brought back in like there was in the old days and some accountability.

    Sure you don't mean up?

Only if I was standing on my head.
The last time I was at Wyndham Vale it was on the Western plains closer to sea level than up in them there hills. Not far from Werribee and, as you would know, **** flows downhill (for those that don't understand that last comment).
However, if Ashes was transmitting rather than receiving, that would be up.

Funnily enough, from the Pentlands again on Saturday night, The UHF channels were full of mindless lonely people and their banal chatter.
