    UHF low mic volume.

    Morning all.
One thing pointed out to me over Glenreagh was that regardless of where the volume dial was, 99% of the time my UHF calls were extremely faint, to the point where if the engine was running you would be very hard pressed to hear it.
Currently, I'm thinking it might be a dodgy mic, any other ideas?
    Cheers

40 or 80 channel? 80 channel transmitters are faint on 40 channel receivers.

Your volume has nothing to do with the transmitter output level, it only adjusts your speaker volume for listening to others.

If the other people have 40ch CB's they will hear your calls faintly / distorted.
have you tested your output with another 80ch CB

Obviously the volume doesn't control my input
I was just pointing out that it wasn't that they couldn't hear anything, just me
Static sounds were fine, just my input was super faint.
AFAIK there was a mix of 80 + 40 channel receivers.
    BUT.
Took it to OL this afternoon, where they tested it and found what I was talking about when talking to an 80CH receiver.
Replaced the mic under warranty, works fine now.
    Cheers

Exactly why I justified spending a bit extra, the matter was resolved quickly and without a fuss.
Will be interesting to see, I'm looking at getting a 2nd cheapo UHF to just monitor the highway channels, and use the GME for convoy work and trip channels, so we'll see how they compare

Yeah, I have had my cheapo Uniden for 18 years now but I don't know how reliable it is yet.
