And I was just about to put a spotlight right where they hit it.

So, I take it you've got a dashcam now?

I thought I spotted a car following me yesterday with a camera.... It was mounted on the interior mirror.... Looked closer and it was an unmarked cop car! All good tho, car is registered, looks tidy and I was driving as I normally do. Anyway, dash cams.. For me who is not really IT and electric gadget savvy, what's the go? Are they IGN activated, and record continually for a given time, then start again.... If you have a bingle or someone does something stupid in front of you then you stop the recording so as not to loose it? What $$$ are we talking? Have been thinking about a Go Pro as plan to put some vids up of the Cummins Powered 101 when done. Would one of these work as a dash cam? Cheers all.

most dash cams can be configured to be on all the time and record to a "buffer" at the time of an accident the buffer (and subsequent footage) becomes a permanent recording untill the camera gets its "reset" signal which is usually the charging power being disrupted then restored.

most are setup to save on impact (most have some kind of g sensor in them that functions independantly) and All of them have some kind of manual trigger to dump the buffer to a save file so if you witness an accident you can save that footage as well.

I reccomend spending the money on the systems that have both a front and rear camera. If you want to be truely exotic about it the newer aftermarket ones for modern vehicles also tie into the vehicles electrics and double as a black box for your vehicle recording pretty much everything about your vehicle (including the reversing cameras video signal and the distance indications from the rear parking sensors)

Reading between the lines, i get the impression you're suggesting there is another way.

So doing the usual eBay research, they start at around $40, (heh - what could go wrong with that???), to about $300-$400 for something really flash. There's also a "black box" thing with cabling to separate cameras, complete with mangled Chinglish in the description.

Otherwise, they all seem to be more-or-less the same, where they keep overwriting unless you save something, and have a function where they "sleep" when the ignition is off unless something like an impact wakes them up. But you have to read the long descriptions to figure it out, as well making sure the thing is actually Oz stock and not from overseas and is in English and so on. Hence my original question! Aagh!

yse, but its only really doable in something with good low down torque, good weight distribution decent traction and articulation...

Reverse into position as best you can untill you hit the vehicle behind you. Stop
Engage low range and continue to reverse, either the vehicle behind you will be pushed back OR you will begin to reverse over it.
Once you have reversed far enough that applying opposite lock and driving forwards will get the nose of the vehicle in place within the lines stop.
Select first and drive forwards until you are within the boundries of the desired car park.

That's good, but I think you should engage low range before hitting the vehicle behind you, so that you have some momentum. And don't forget when driving forward for your final manoeuvre to aim for the white line ahead, which should be as close to the middle of your vehicle as possible once parked.

I know someone who has a very rich friend who was cut off when they were about to go into a parking spot. So they used their enormous American car to ram the other car until it was destroyed, and just paid for the damage later on.

I have been looking into this for my company car. Main reason is I do over 60,000ks a year around Qld and Nt and would love to record what I see during the day. Even to play back to there to show how stupid drivers are.
But also incase anything happens I am covered

I hit a roo the other month in my company car and would have been useful to show work what I have to put up with in my job. Most of our staff are Victorians and don't understand what I really do in driving for my job. So to have a record would be good.

Have seen these blackvue ones on eBay starting at $130. Are these ones alright but do you need a better one. I like the fact they are smaller than most of the ones you seen. I don't want a big screen thing in my window.

    Cheers
