Antenna issue
I replaced the antenna on the Defender today. After some cursing and swearing, pulling out half the dash, ensuring the stereo worked, then replacing the dash, I started the engine. To my dismay, the stereo now makes a strange drumming sort of noise over the top of the broadcast, basically at the same rhythm of the engine. When I physically touch the antenna, the drumming goes away. I'm assuming there's some kind of earthing issue going on. Any ideas what this is and how to fix it?

Some one posted a test for an antenna by using a multimeter, some time back, and now I can't find it.
Here's part of the test I've found on the web.
Instructions
1
Connect one of the leads on the ohmmeter or multimeter (the multimeter can act as an ohmmeter) to the antenna mast on the vehicle. You can do this directly or by connecting a wire from the antenna to the ohmmeter.
2
Locate the cable from the antenna that is plugged into the back of the vehicle's radio. Unplug the cable from the radio.
3
Insert the center pin of the antenna cable into the other lead on the ohmmeter.
4
View the display on the ohmmeter. It should read between zero and two ohms if your antenna connection is working properly.
Or this which may be better:

I've also heard that some Land Rover panels are not well earthed back to the chassis and the antenna needs it's own dedicated earth from the base to the chassis.
Don.
