SubscriberI am (in the slow process of) installing a mud console and stereo into the Tdi Defender.
The dash wiring currently looks like this mess....
as you can see there are a lot of currently un-connected wires.
How on earth can I figure out what all those wires are connected to so I can
1. Keep what's needed
2. Identify sources of power, acc power etc for the switches I will be installing in the console.
Is there a wiring diagram that could get me started ?
Anyone know the colour codes?
There would be 12V for a cig lighter and possibly a clock there, I presume, but I've no idea what else?
How could I go about testing to find what each wire is for?
All HELP VERY VERY VERY gratefully received.

I spotted this thread when I got home but hoped someone may know rather than working through the old fashioned way.
If you have RAVE there may be a wire diagram you could use.
I'd be using a test light to find what each plug does.
Guessing you'll find...
Full time power(clock/radio memory/etc.)
Ignition(wipers/rear demister/etc.).
Accesory(Radio/cig lighter/etc.).
Parkers(Backlights to switchs/radio dim/etc.).
Earth.
Other possibilities....
High beam feed for driving lights.
Speakers.
For a educated guess the 2 large plugs are radio, one will be power/acc/earth and the other speakers.
The plug with the piggy back blue connecter may be an accessory feed.
If you where close to me I'd come and have a look.

if you have no luck i have a manuel at home for defender, just need to check which years it covers, i could scan the wiring page and send it.
