He has hard wired everything from the modem & mesh system to the computer & TV's ect. speed went from 30's up to over 100 immediately. So far no problems with anything so happy with that. He did say that there would not be any problems with the Wi fi in our house & it is a NBN connection problem . I was lucky that it actually dropped out while he was here so cod demonstrate what the problem was.
Notice from the government's backflip announcement this week that it will not be the government paying to fix the problems caused by not going fibre to the premises in the first place, it will be customers paying through our plans with the providers. So basically we will have to pay extra to fix the government's mistakes.
The fact the speed reading at the modem dropped to 30 from 100 & may have been lower when he started doing the reading but every thing had started working again before he finished the test . There may be an issue with the Wi fi which the hard wire has fixed . We have had problems with Foxtel for years & cut it off because of these problems with it dropping out & provider not wanting to fix it. The Foxtel cable runs from the fibber connection which is down the far end of the street that our street runs off at least 20 properties away & on the other side of the road Anything could be wrong between there & here. 10 years ago we could not connect to cable internet because we were only getting internet for about 1hr a day took 6months to get put back onto ADSL & instance fix. Still old 35year old Foxtel cable , told provider before connecting to NBN but would not listen , also offered to have fibber run into our house was told would not be necessary . I am not the only one in our area with the same problem that is why it took 5 years to complete the area , after 2 years they stopped doing insulations for a year so they could fix existing then took another 2 years to complete the area & still having problems .
If they had gone for new fibre in the ground everywhere we'd all still be on ADSL. I know what I'd rather have. Seems like a sensible approach to me, anybody who is prepared to pay for 100Mb can get a fibre connection, those that are too tight to pay for it probably didn't need it anyway. I Reckon I'll go for it when they announce more than ideas.....
and hardly a backflip despite the spin put on it. The NBN rollout finished, it would seem to me to make sense that upgrading to a technology that can support 1Gb where there is demand is a sensible phase 2 of the development of a national asset, particularly as wireless technologies are on the horizon that will reach well over 100 Mb.
