I just bought myself a preloved Codan NGT

    All,

I have been busy working on where to install the Codan Transceiver and Junction box etc.

So after much debate with myself, I visited my local Sheet Metal guy with the Specs for a boxed C Channel the width and breadth of my Passenger seat (Wagon Centre Row). I riveted and Tek screwed the sucker in, and installed the Radio Base Mount in the C Section. So when the seat is upright, nothing can slide from the wagon bay under the seat due to a 100mm galv plate coming down to the floor from underneath the seat.

I chopped up my old 200amp plus Jumper lead, and created a feed from the Battery to under the seat. This is terminated with a 100amp fuse Box, and will provide a feed to the HF Radio. I will likely fit a new UHF with remote head, so the transceiver can mount near the UHF, along with installing an accessories power outlet, on the outside of the C section. Of course I will fuse all the accessories coming of the main Feed.

The NGT Junction Box, I installed underneath the front passenger Toe Panel (Heaps of space in there).

So all I have left, in sight unprotected, is the NGT Microphone.

I have installed the above, Now just have to install the Autotune Antenna and leads. I have been watching the threads on the Aftermarket Wheel Mounts for the tailgate, but have not committed yet.

Anyway, I felt like spilling my guts on my latest purchase.

Congrats on the NGT. Nice rig!

Does it have the new program in it? One problem with NGT's was due to just about everything being configured in software. Because all were programmed differently, no one could offer advice/help when a user was having problems using their NGT.

So Codan, VKS737, Radtel and others got together and came up with a standard program, which suited most interested parties, so they would all operate in the same manner and make life easier for all.

Any Codan dealer/tech should be able to install the new progam.

What do you mean, registered to use?

If you are talking regarding touring/travelling then try vks-737. Subscribing will give you license subscription to use VKS-737 Frequencies and services.

    Cheers.

An advert for another HF radio:

Can be set up in minuets or used permeantly in car or as a homebase
Suitable for 4WD frequency, C.B. and flying doubter
    Minuets? For a classical musician?

    A flying doubter?

I'm sure the RFDS would be proud of that term.

    Another advert said
Owner selling due to relocating to Brisbane.

I never knew that Brissie was too far away from anywhere to be able to receive HF transmissions!

G'day All, I was always under the impression that you still had to have the license from the Communications authority as well as being registered with VKS737 or have I been paying out extra for the past 16 years cheers Dennis

u'mm, sounds like you are paying out extra.

Depends what you have with the ACA.

If you subscribe to VKS-737 then that subscription includes using the specified frequencies for VKS-737 only.

If you have a MROCP License from the ACA then this will still not cover you for VKS-737 or any other frequencies outside of Marine.

RFDS subscription allows use of RFDS frequencies only.

    etc etc.

If you have subscription to VKS or RFDS then you can not use Amateur Radio Frequencies, unless you have a suitable ACA license to cover you for the specified Amateur Frequencies.

Likewise if you have an Amateur License you still can not use VKS-737 Frequencies without subscribing.

However, if you are in deep **** then PAN PAN or MAyday calls are open slather. Anything Goes. Whoever will listen.

What are you paying ACA for?

    From the VKS-737 site

VKS-737 Base Stations are licensed to use the frequencies of 5455kHz, 8022kHz, 11612kHz, 14977kHz & 3995kHz under the
Radiocommunications Act (No. 174) of 1992.
VKS-737 Members are only AUTHORISED to use the above listed frequencies under Section 114 of the Radio Communications Act
(No. 174) of 1992 for the period of time as indicated upon their annual Membership / Licence Authority Card. The onus of membership
renewal rests with the member, non-receipt of a Renewal Notice for whatsoever reason by a member does not give that member the
right to use VKS-737 frequencies after the expiry date shown on the Membership / Licence Authority Card.
Members DO NOT require an Australian Communications & Media Authority (ACMA) Outpost Mobile Licence (RFDS licence) to
operate on the VKS-737 Network frequencies.
A Outpost Mobile Licence DOES NOT permit operation on the VKS-737 Network frequencies.
