    Tv Repair

A little ot but still electronics, my 2nd tv which is a DEC cheapie has become the main tv since our other one died but what i havent really worried about before is the fact that the picture doesnt fit the screeen horizontally. I've looked thru the menu but there is no way of adjusting it, i was thinking of taking the back off to see if there is adjustment on the tube some where, so does anyone know where it would be if at all ?

    thanks,
    Nick.

Nick nowdays here are very few if any adjustments on the neck board or main board.
All or most adjustments are done in "service mode" meaning not for customer, using customers remote to adjust the pic size an linearity.
But you need to know in what sequence to press the remote buttons to get into service mode.
Most adjustments are done in hexidecimal basically 256 steps of adjustment per item.
If your set is still under warranty take it back and tell them to straiten the picture.
But as we are getting so much chinese imported crap made to a price with no quality you may get a replacement that is worse but you will be told that "it is within specifications" and nothing can be done.
This is one of the reasons I am closing my repair business and getting out!!
    Have fun

Most of the TV & radio repairers in Brisbane have closed down in the last few years. In too many cases the repair cost is greater than the cost of a new replacement. Kon Efimov at Camp Hill told me he started charging hourly rate for quotes as he was wasting so much time only to be told by the client that they could buy a new one cheaper. Kon shut shop and joined the public service. Dick Gordon-Cook at Holland Park is still going but has pretty well specialised in repairing valve jobs for collectors and restorers. Dick has a monoposto Alfa-Romeo race car in the front of his shop and had not laid a spanner on it for near thirty years.

The tv is otherwise great, very basic but with a flat tube is still has a pretty good picture quality.
