Sounds like your recorder is getting a feed from the TV not from the set top box.
What type of cable/fitting are you using to plug into the stb?
Or does the recorder have a tuner built into it?
Cheers
Simon
G'day All,
Hoping someone maybe able to assist before I get someone out. I just recently added a DVD HDD Recorder to my setup. I have a Sony System, this is the link to it http://www.sony.com.au/homecinema/ca...tegoryId=34346#, Model DAVLF1H HCRLF1H + SALF1H, it has the infra red speakers.
So it already has a DVD player in the system, which isnt a problem as everything runs through it ie TV, Austar etc. I also have a Sony Digital Set top box, which plays all the local, Brisbane and Northern NSW stations, which connects through the main system. So when I attached the DVD burner to the system, and then connected that to the set up box ie thats where the antenna plugs into, and tuned it in, the DVD recorder is only getting the Northern NSW stations which is average quality?? Austar is fine, DVD is fine, but I'm not getting the stations that are coming from the set top box into the other system. Gee I hope this is making sense. If anyone can assist or point me in the right direction, that would be great as I want to be able to record some TV shows that are clashing with some of my faves. Thanks
Regards
Stevo

I can see this is going to get confusing ...![]()

Hope this doesn't make thing worse.
A set top box shouldn't need tuning. It will "scan" and find all the digital channels itself.
Your new DVD recorder will also have it's own tuner ( anlogue only probably ). That will need tuning.
You don't really need to connect the antenna to your TV anymore. Just use it as a video "monitor" ie not use your TV tuner at all ) You can just provide video feeds from your STB / home theatre / HDD recorder to the TV. Assuming you have several types of video input to the telly (composite video, component video and s video inputs ) you can hook one of these to each device. ( I suggest maybe component to the STB and S video or composite to the home theatre. )
Then depending on what device you are "playing" from, you switch your TV to the correct input.
As for the antenna - maybe first take it through to the HDD recorder, the output of that goes to the STB. No real need to connect it to the TV.
This should allow you to watch live TV from the STB and also record something else on the HDD/DVD
That's sort of how mine is connected although I have an STB with HDD instead.
Thanks for the feedback, with my set up the plasma is used purely as a "showing" device and from what I can see most of the other "stuff" runs through the amplifier. The original DVD player is like the main component that runs everything through it ie I change from DVD to TV to Austar through that. I will try running the antenna into the DVD player and the connect that to the STB and see if that works. Cabling used is the professional stuff and the recorder does have a tuner as that is how it picked up the original stations albeit all the wrong ones. I would have thought that with the antenna into the settop box and then connecting the DVD recorder to that that it would tune into the stations in the STB not pick up stations from somewhere else?? Probably will end up being something simple to someone with know how...unlike myself![]()

Stevo,
If your DVD burner has a bult-in tuner and you connect it to the ANTENA OUT on the STB, what id does it simply loops the signal through the STB without doing anything. It would be the same as plugging the DVD burner directly into the antena.
If you want to record stuff from the STB, you need to plug it into the DVD Burner using the RCA output cables and then the DVD Burner into the rest of the system, so the DVD Burner is between STB and Tele:
Antena(coax)-->STB---(3xRCA)-->DVDR---(3xRCA)-->Tele/System
The STB takes analogue and digital signal, converts that into analogue audio and video, sends that to the DVDR (which presumably has input and output connections) where it can be recorded and at the same time that signal goes to the tele.
OK if you've done it that way that's fine... but the STB just passes through all the signals from the "outside world". You willl need to grab your HDD recorder manual and set up all the channels properly. It will not automatically tune itself in like the digital tuner in the STB.

Thanks again for the info, will have a crack this weekend and see what I can achieve on my own, have printed off information and will sit down and have a look at what goes where and see if I can make it work so that next week I can record my clashing shows![]()
