With my disco, I put the Codan autotune on the bottom bar (after the welded aluminium bracket on the top bar broke).
The reason for having the upper section of the Codan autotune above the bonnet is because a good bit of the signal is radiated from there (unlike Barret autotunes that only radiate from the whip). If the upper section was below the top of the bonnet a lot of signal toward the rear would be blocked.
You will notice in the pics above showing the rear mounted Codan autotune that the upper section above the roof line. Also if you look at a most rear mounted Barret autotunes, only the whip is above the roof line.

Hello, I have been doing a search trying to find where I can purchase the rear wheel carrier mount for the HF antenna. Would you be able to post where you bought it from and would you knonw if they fit a 1993 D1??

Personally I don't like antenna tuning units on the bull-bar and that is why I posted the pics from Peter's setup. Yes Mrs Ho Har the antennae in your line of sight is a pain.
My GSM antenae is permanently on the passengers side of the bull-bar but as I'm usually not driving it's not a problem, however when I switch from the low gain UHF on the scuttle panel and fit the hi-gain on the bull-bar it is right in my line of sight. The consequence is, I want to cock my head to one side or other to look past the side of the stick. I'm tempted to weld another bracket in the middle of the bull-bar and move the Hi-gain but the bar is powder coated and so welding means a strip and re-power coat.

Left is a 9 foot 27MHz CB tuned by an SGC SG-237 auto-tuner mounted directly under the antenna. Used for HF. This is bent back and tucked under the roof rack when not needed.
Centre is a Comet SBB5 which is a dual band VHF/UHF.
Right is an RFI CD900 for UHF CB.
The bar is the "new" ARB one. I don't have any problem with the centre antenna. In fact my view is directly between the HF and VHF/UHF antennas. Forget they are there while driving.

Thanks Miky but I do notice that your whips are thin wire designs, you may have a different opinion of the obstruction if the antennae were more rigid fibreglass or even a multi-tap HF.
The wire whips have advantages when passing through the bush, however, as you would know, their nature of bending away from the prevaling wind (direction of travel) alters their fore and aft propagation, impacting communication on the move.

Yea. I take the view that most things in life are a compromise.
My last 4x4 (not a LR) I drilled holes in the roof within a week of getting it - new vehicle
As for moving whips as your driving... I am sure we could have many long and philosophical (and technical) discussions on that one

The new Codan Antenna Tuner was designed (in part) to remove any legal ambiguity about obstructing forward vision.
It is about the size of a couple of house bricks and with the stainless wire whip antenna, it is almost invisible when compared to the older 9350.
The 3040 also does away with the moving parts of the 9350 and uses relay switching instead so it should be even more reliable than the 9350 and will tune a lot faster.
No idea on price, sorry. The old tuner is slightly more efficient I believe and it will tune to slightly lower frequencies but this is only of interest to Amateur radio operators.
