    That is what i use and fine it great and ok. Can't be ar*ed with any of this internet phone stuff, i just want to pick up the walk about phone and make a call
    I spend an hour or more on the phone to my brother in the uk a couple of time a week
    Thanks for the replies guys but think I'm with Reads on this one. Even though VOIP can do this i'm sure, it all seems to hard just now for me to organise. A simple change of carrier and plan is be far the easiest option and for 2c a minute, hell that's not bad at all. I call the UK about once a week for around half an hour so really any VOIP savings are not going to huge.
    Reads, I take it you have the same provider and bill for local, interstate and overseas calls?

    Appreciate the help guys, Mick

    It's OK.
    I don't get to use the phone very often in our house, so I won't consume too much.

    Yeah on telstra now ,was with optus but telstras did a deal on all the home stuff, but they both do it. You just have to ask for the $5 a month overseas call 0ffer
    If you have foxtell or telstra mobile (or both) then give them a call as they are doing a major offers for going back to telstra. (don't worry i did that and got a cracking deal but have never been with telstra before )

    We use the pre-paid call cards. I recharge it with $20-30 once in a while an it lasts for ages.
    We use a card called "Shout" I'm sure you will be able to Google it?

    The calls are about 1c per minute, stick $30 on and you get thousands of minutes of calls !
    You can use it on any carrier, Telstra, AAPT etc

    ===============================
    **Pick up the phone dial your Card number then dial the number you need to call in the UK.

    yep same here.. we use one called talk tomato.. 15c local call untimed and something stupid like 1.7c a minute with no connection fee plus you can have it linked to the number you call from so you dont have any zillion digit pins to enter..

    for calls to mobiles in the uk i use my mobile as i get around 120 minutes a months with 3 and my old prepay cap with vodaphone used to get me 10 mins for $3 of cap but i could use all my cap if i wanted too.. (dad is away most weekends so i have to call him on his mobile if i want to talk to him!)

    Thanks

    Steve

    Mobile to mobile Vodaphone pre pay works out cheap, sms via the same or good old msn messenger for either voice, or camera + voice calls. Good to let the great grandparents actually see the kids over the net.
