    lights wiring?

    Hi to you all.

last week I took delivery of a new DEFENDER (2008 model). i am in the process of putting on some accessories...

I have recently joined this club and I am glad about it.
Through the informtion gained through here, i have ordered a dual battey kit through TRAXIDE and i will pick up a battery from SUPERCHARGE BATTERIES at an excellent price. THANK YOU!!!

... But I need to install a pair of 100 w driving lights. I took them off my old car so that i can reuse them on my machine. The upgrade kits from TRAXIDE seem a bit expensive.
    • are the wiring kits from TRAXIDE good?
    • do i need to upgrade the existing headlight wiring?
    • does the existing wiring have a relay built into it?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in anticipation.

    G'day Machine,

    • are the wiring kits from TRAXIDE good?
    • do i need to upgrade the existing headlight wiring?
    • does the existing wiring have a relay built into it?
    • Yes I have been very pleased with everything Traxide has supplied me in the last few years.
    • don't have to... but they are very very good (At least the Traxide system I put on my other Discovery was.)
    • Not sure about a factory relay... but the real secret is decent size cabling - both from the relay to the lights and as power supply to the relay.

If in doubt talk to Drivesafe on this forum... (he is Traxide).. great guy, always willing to give good advice. There are a lot of auto elecs between here ( Melbourne) and Qld.... but I still buy stuff from Tim, because his product and advice is always 100%.

Half way down this page, you will see some rather dodgy before and after photos from me doing my headlight upgrade kit....

    Lighting upgrade.

    The results were pretty impressive.

    hope it helps..

Traxide kit is very good, MLR installed one in mine. I run 2 batteries and an Anderson plug to the trailer.
Headlight upgrade will improve lighting a little as it gives a heavier wiring loom to the lights.
The Puma Defender has a relayed circuit so its not as important for the other reason. I'd still look at putting one in if you wanted to put higher wattage bulbs in.

If you are buying an SVX then you need to remember it has H7 bulbs in the main and high beam lights. The standard Defender is still H4

    thanks

Hi again and thanks for the info, I have ordered the gear from traxide. I have also bought a battery from Super Charge Batteries.
They were excellent. I bought a 120 AH AGM battery for only $290, where I was looking at paying about $550 through some other mobs.Their warehouse is amazing, they stock so many batteries. it seems that they are a wholesaler but were very helpful as soon as I mentioned that I was a member of this club.

    Cheers, Alex.
