    Why would there be problems roof mounting it ?

    i haven;t even GOT a roof lining in my Defender and it doesn;t get all that hot. And if they didn't work mounted up there, then the roof console manufacturers would go out of business.

    then again I have a GME - not aware of any dramas with them but I hadn;t heard about Uniden dramas until now either.
    It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

    I've remote mounted an external speaker on the headlining just above and behind the drivers seat.

    The unit does have a speaker on the body but I'm also certain you would not hear it when it's buried so deep behind the dash. The 300Tdi is not known for it quiteness

    Thanks for the advice. I checked under the dash and the plate that the unit is mounted too is directly in the airflow of the front opening vents so I'm hopeful it'll be OK. However, I will monitor it and if required I could always pop a couple of holes in the plate to enhance the air flow.
