Thread: Mounting options for a Uniden UH015SX?

Hi Iain, I definitely would not put it in the roof lining as it will cook in summer time heat.If you have a cubby box between the front seats maybe it would fit inside,especially if you use an extension speaker so that the lid can be down while driving and you can still hear the radio.Otherwise the 110 has little space to play with in the dash.Depending on the length of cable between the head unit and the main body of the radio, you may fit it out of sight under the rear seat.The head unit will probably go in the dash area depending on whether you have air con or not or perhaps in the cubby where it won't take up much room.I fitted mine behind the box and draped a towel over it when the vehicle was out in the open street. speaking from experience, they definitely dont like the heat, and the cable is about 1-1.5 metres

Mount the base unit under the cubby (or seat) and then put the head unit on the front of the cubby or up on the dash somewhere.

Well I've had a busy Sunday mounting the radio.

In the end I chose to remote mount it behind the instrument panel. There was a space just big enough immediately behind the gauges and after fabrication of a couple of mounting brackets it all worked out really well.

The photos below show the brackets and the final mounting locations of the head and the body.

The top two mounting points for the body are the existing mounting bolts for the rear of the instrument panel. The bottom two munting points had to be drilled into the back of the firewall and were attached with a couple of self-tapping screws.













All in all a very successful Sunday in the shed

you *may* have issues with heat with it under the dash like that

known issues are:

scan frequencies changing or zero'ing
group scan channels changing by themselves
turning the unit on and getting a blank screen

Thanks for the headsup. Are these known issues particularly with the Uniden UH015sx or is this how any unit like this is likely to missbehave when it gets hot?

I'll have to have a closer look in the daylight but I think the area may get at least a small amount of airflow when the front flap vents are open. I'll investigate and report back.

these are known issues with the UH105sx, from my own personal experience, got the main unit in my falcon mounted under the parcelshelf in the boot, only ever had problems in summer, so i'm putting the problems i've had down to the high ambient temperatures in the boot in summer (dark blue car)
