    where the main body of the plug screws over the braid, its quite acceptable to have it that way, though theres nothing wrong with having it soldered either

    just makes it difficult to salvage the plug if you ever need to change things

    Unless solder joints have the necessary strain relief you can get the copper work hardening at the point where the solder stops providing a stiff support. That is why many military applications use crimped pins instead of solder cups. But then again I don't think that your Landy is going to fall out of the sky if the solder joint fails.
