    Wiring a ciggy plug

    Plug is on a cable for my mini Waeco fridge thingy.

    Problem: Broken ciggy plug (not socket)
    Solution: New ciggy plug (obtained).

    Do I need to carefully trace which wire from the existing ciggy plug is going into which side of the fridge plug, to wire the new one the same ? Or doesn't it matter.

    i can do the soldering etc no worries just need to know the above.
    It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

    Hi Vlad, you MUST wire your new plug exactly the same way the old one was wired otherwise, if you get the wiring back to front, you will have a smoking oven, not a fridge.

    If you know which wire is positive, this goes to the centre contact pin and the negative goes to the side contacts of the new plug.

    Seriously, if you get it wrong, you might only blow a fuse or you may do some serious damage so you need to get it right, the first time.

    Why not just check the wires with a multimeter to find out which is +'ve.
    Wrong way should return -12.something V. Right way 12.something.

    Great.

    Rewired ciggy plug OK (eventually.... grrrrrr) and now there's also no power at the socket and as it's dark, my dash is held together with zip ties etc etc I have given up but it means another thing for me to look at tomorrow in the f'ing dark !
