for some odd reason everyone seems to have switched to UHF. Dunno why AM went much further. I have an AM set thats been sitting in the garage for about 4 years now.
does anyone still use 27mhz sets? i've heard some truckies still use them occasionally, but i havent heard a peep

That happens on UHF too especially in popular areas but I generally just "squelsh" them out.
When I last got a lift with a truck driver while hitching [18 months or so ago] he had both UHF and a 27MHZ in his truck and used both.

UHF is a much cleaner signal - I like the old 27mHz though. I think, still quite active on SSB for the keen CBer who likes a bit of DXing. Not used that much on AM.
I have both.
GME TX-4200 --UHF - Which will be replaced with a handheld soon as it's getting on a bit, no backlight, previous owner appears to have backfilled it with araldite, so you can't open it completely. Still trying to decide which handheld to get (leaning towards Icom IC-41s).
GME TX-835 -AM - Standard 40 channel, 27Mhz. Sitting in shed, not being used.
Uniden ???? - AM - 40 channel SSB, 27Mhz. Me like.![]()
Uniden UH 015SX UHF and GME TX830 27mhz AM in my falcon, add to that a car kit, and i'm expecting to walk out the door one morning and find an echidna humping my car......
and to think i havent chucked one of my ICOM's and the VHF set in it yet......
I've got both - but no aerial at the moment on the 27meg, also 27meg (5W) freq in the HF set, but no tappings at that freq on the stick.
