    Tait T496

i'm hoping some of the older radio fans out there can help me with this

a while ago i rescued a pair of Tait T496 radio sets from getting crushed, and trying to find out anything about them apart from people who have used them as repeaters is near impossible

does anyone know anything about them?

You can download the service manual from this page. It's 16Mb, 'yay'.

I had a quick read of the manual, and it appears that the 496 is the same as the Philips FM900 series - ie eprom driven. For a short time I played with the FM900, and it wasn't too hard to adjust & program. But, it was with a PC running at 25mhz, DOS, and you had to manually remove the eprom and put it in an cradle attached to the PC. IF, you can find the eprom programmer ( like this - SIMPLE EPROM PROGRAMMER - and an old pc, and the dos program, then you might be able to get the 496 going. Older comms people (Like Metro in Sydney) probably have the gear to program it, but like a lot of things, it's just too old.
