Does anyone here fix mobile phones?

I just brought a phone of ebay......supposed to be brand new

its a Sony Ericsson C902 the phone certainly looks new as does its phone accessories

The phone however is faulty when I first turned it on I had no sound for a couple of hours.....Ironically when I contacted the seller to inform him of this after doing master resets etc with no luck the bloody thing then started to have sound.

So me doubting myself thought bugger perhaps I did something by mistake...I didn't think I did as I'm quite phone literate anyhow I contact the seller and say its working now....then 10mins later I lose the sound again this time it comes back on with a slight crackle. which makes me think its a lose connection on the phones speaker. hence the cutting in and out.

I had every reason to think this seller would be good even though overseas in china or where ever it was he has sold thousands of phones and only had a couple of negative feed backs which could be expected with the amount of units he sells. He is also a power seller.
How ever he I feel is stalling as he keeps telling em to try a factory reset...I told him I wasn't happy with the phone as knowing my luck I would leave feedback and it would go again...he hasn't replied since

One of the feedbacks I noticed was shipping back to china was REALLY expensive...so although they should bloody change it I was wondering whether it would be less hassle and cheaper to fix it my self by getting someone to do it.

Do you think it sounds like an easy fix?

Could potentially just be the speaker connection inside that's loose, I fixed a similar problem on an HTC a while back by opening it up and reseating the little plastic wiring connector that had come off the circuit board.

With it being a new phone you've just bought however I wouldn't recommend going down the route of taking it apart till you've exhausted every other option on getting the seller to replace it - opening it would definitely invalidate the warranty so really only a last resort to avoid you getting stuck with a brick.

DB - it does sound like the speaker connection. They are usually just two little pins that connect to a couple of small pads. Biggest cause is condensation, causing a bit of corrosion on the contacts.

    Thats the good news.

And now for the bad news:

I would try contacting Sony, and see if you can get it fixed under warranty, or at the very least, have them give you a quote to fix it. I wouldn't be surprised if this was considered as a "grey" import, therefore meaning that any warranty claims will have to go back to the place of purchase. Even if that is China.

The other option is that it is a refurb unit. It should carry a limited warranty, but good luck claiming on it.

Sony may not want to know you. If not, then your alernatives are limited. Depending on the price you paid, it could be worth going to a mobile phone repairer & getting them to have a look. If you were a little closer, I would tell you to drop it off with me....

Does the phone have a jack for an external headset?
If so, these can play up. When the headset is plugged in, the internal speaker is disconnected. When the headset is removed, the internal speaker may not be reconnected.

I reckon it would defiantly be seen as grey import...so I'm not expecting warranty on this unit only through the seller....funny though seller has not replied to my emails since I have said I'm not happy with the phone and we need to do something about it..I'm sure it would be a simple fix. hence why I'm wondering whether the cost of having it fixed my self would be cheaper than paying for postage back to china...IF they do contact me back.

and them sending me a replacement which would be condition unknown until I get it and test just like this one...its then the time of it going back and also the worry of it going missing in the post.

I just dont know what to do....

Best bet is to let your fingers do the walking.

IF you can get in touch with the seller, and they agree to a return / repair, then have a look at the Aust Post site to see how much it will cost to return to China, and also get back to you.

Then ring Sony, and find out what their quote fee is.

Only then will you know which way is more economical.

And if all else fails, let me know. I cant do anything in the way of parts, but if it is only a bad connection, then we should be able to get it working.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news

A few years back we bought a couple of mobiles on fleabay, for work. They were nokia's,& when they played up,nokia wouldnt touch them. They were made for another overseas market,& like yourself didnt realise the were different from the mobiles here.I bet Sony here are the same.

The mobiles were brand new,in sealed boxes, with accessories, etc

We still occasionally buy them but make sure they are aussie spec phones with an aussie warranty.

    Good luck

If the phone was suppose to be new, and the payer doesn't respond in a reasonable time - ebay reckons seven days - start a dispute through ebay, if you paid via paypal it is pretty easy to get your money back.

Or, head down to local dodgy mobile store, from what I read while doing something similar, every corner phone store has a magician with a soldering wand in the back room modding mobile phones for not much cash.

Hey guys I knew exactly when buying I wouldn't be covered by Australian warranty so no one is bringing me bad news

The seller has contacted me...And said that they are sure with a factory reset the phone will be fine..if not I have within 2 months (which does state this on their ad) to get another phone or get a refund. They also said if I'm really that worried about it failing to send it back and they will refund me. So I have asked (becasue the phone has been fine today) if perhaps I will keep hold of it for a week and if the sound goes again I will contact them and the phone will be sent back for a replacement.
they said that they its not good for them being power sellers if people get things that they are not happy with or are faulty as its is bad for there rep so will help me to get this sorted.....

    Just waiting on a reply
