    Remote Radio Controls

I have a 96 Disco ES. Each side of the instrument cluster there are two buttons which remotely control some radio functions. The LH side does the volume control. When pressing the volume up button it sometimes changes the radio to the next station in the memory presets. If listening to a CD it will change to the next song. Does anyone know anything about this.

I would like to get a new head unit that would work with the remote buttons. I tried Strathfield Car Radio but they could not help.

    Dave.

You'll need an adaptor lead from Autoleads (probably a PC99-X19) to suit the Disco and the connector lead to suit the new head unit you buy.

The problem is more than likely to be in the switches. We used to replace these quite often.

The original head unit is a Phillips unit so you may have to get something similar.
I do seem to recall one of our customers replacing the original with something else & retained the genuine remote buttons though. It would be at least 12-14 years ago now so it might be considered old technology these days.

I think the switches are a carbon type so maybe they can be pulled apart & cleaned. The original P38 switches were the same & had a similar problem. They were replaced with microswitch type switches to fix the problem.
