Have had a bit of a look around the web but no answers.
I know power output is one issue, but I do not particularly want seperate HF / 27MHZ CB / 27MHZ Marine radios either. Would be great to be able to talk to friends on their boats etc when I am on shore or if wife wants to contact us while fishing.
Have tuned all the frequencies to receive.
I'll have to think back a few years.... I bought an 8528 with remote head (not the small one) back in 1989... Yes I still have it, though its been unused for at least 10 years and not even installed in my current vehicle. had an autotune antenna with it as well, but that got nicked years ago...

I remembered when I bought it it has the Amateur band mod done, which also reduced the Tx power above a certain frequency.

I can remember discovering a modification for the unit, which involve shorting 2 pins to be able to program ANY frequency within its coverage range. Remove the short for normal operation, I ended up putting a switch in for that mod via a plug/socket arrangement.

If any one is interested, contact me and when I get back from FMQ (probably end of Oct '09) I can dig out the radio and have a look.

Any one want to buy it, make me an offer and I'll consider it.

    Yep,
Know about that trick and it works for all but the 27MHZ range and above, it tells you the range is too high to program for transmit. On investigation I have the 1-40 channels working but wanted to program the 41-80 channels and marine 27MHZ for receive and transmit, but it wont allow it. Maybe it can be done via XP at a dealer I do not know yet and it is not a priority at the momment.

Mmm, something tells me you might be right about that, thinking about it.... but I also remember hearing of a different programming mod using a similar technique... I'll have to rummage around when I get back down south to find my old paperwork...
