    Any Bluetooth experts on here?

I have an Alpine IDA-X001 Head Unit and the Blue tooth Hands free interface KCE 350 BT installed in the Discovery.
I followed the instructions carefuly to install it and everything is working as it should apart from the actual sound quality of the phone calls.
It makes all kinds of squelching sounds and is nearly impossible to understand.
How much does electrical interferance effect Bluetooth signal?
I installed the interface under the dash and used all of the correct Alpine cables etc.....but obviously there are lots of other wires down there too.
Would a supressor help? Where would i fit it?

The micrphone is situated on the door pillar and I don't think this is causing the problem.

    Any pointers?

    Thx.

Sounds faulty to me .... take it back!

I've never heard of that much interferance from other electrical / electronic devices .... and normally theses units would be well isolated.

    Cheers

I'm not a bluetooth expert by any means

    But this incompatibility happens sometimes.

Bluetooth is just a standard, about transmitting. It's silent on other phone matters.

Trouble is I suspect, both ends have their own compression & noise cancelling technologies, and they're clashing. Or both operating more to the point. A noise-cancelled signal is being sent by bluetooth, & is then having noise cancellation applied again.

Not sure what your solution is, unless you're lucky & able to turn off in the options somewhere.

I'd be interested in other opinions.

    Thx guys.
The problem I have is that I bought the interface from Germany last year and I've just got around to fitting it here in Dubai.
I called the local Alpine dealer who had no interest what so ever because I hadn't bought it from them. They didn't stock this item in the Middle East either.

It wasn't cheap either! I'll hang around & see what comes up on here.

    Thx.

Did you set up the KCE 350 BT with the Hands Free Profile (HFP)?

I followed the set up instructions exactly to the manual Dale and everything works. It's just the quality of sound that appauling.
I didn't see any 'Options' in the set up menu to be honest. I thought that it would be HFP only or are there other forms of Blue Tooth then?

Please advise mate...I'm abit confused by that bit.

    Regards.

I think you need to try and isolate the source of the noise. Does it happen only with the engine on? If so, then it's likely to be some sort of electrical noise which you can then try and suppress. If it happens with the engine off, I'd suspect it's the unit itself and not any Bluetooth issues as such.

I get the same terrible noise with the engine running or just with the ignition turned on.
The leads supplied with the device are all screened.

    Dale.
I'm reading the manual as we speak and still can't find any ref to the HFP that you mentioned.

Edited to add. Just found ref HFP. It's set to default when the BT device unit is connected to the head unit.

    Thx.

I think the HFP is a bit of a furphy and isn't the cause of your problems.

See if you can borrow someone else's phone to rule it out being your phone, otherwise it's the unit that's faulty.

    Thx every one.
