I got mine from Dick Smith Electronics .... paid a little more than you would from JB HiFi ..... but you can get a 5 year replacement warranty for $70. The extra 1 year warranty from Apple is $90.

I have an 80 gb Classic (work supplied - Free). It currently has just over 13000 tracks on it and there is plenty of spare room.
Given that the average radio station has (from memory) a playlist of about 800 tracks.... I get lots of variety!
Yeah a mate here at work has the 120G classic and has about 20G free with 17000+ songs on it. Impressive.
I'm leaning to the Zune now as the whole iTunes world really locks you in far too much (for me anyway). Much nicer to have some freedom with drag and drop etc. Also if you have to reinstall iTunes, ask someone about restoring their playlists etc if they have had PC issue(s)... not a fun deal. Of course they will sell you an app to sort it...
Also, if you buy a song (or other) from iTunes and it happens to be 'protected', you will have a hard time burning your perfectly legally bought track as a .wav etc... unless you buy that app as well. All round just too hard at times and inconvenient even after doing the 'right thing'.
For 90% of punters though, the iPod is great.
Cheers.
What are you on about? Itunes is Drag and Drop!
Playlists are just a backup (can be done as a txt file) so takes seconds.
No apps required to sort it out.
I think you've been led up the garden path a bit here...
Again incorrect, sorry! If you buy ANY music from online ANYWHERE that has DRM then it is restricted. iTunes will allow you to burn most music to a CD...Also, if you buy a song (or other) from iTunes and it happens to be 'protected', you will have a hard time burning your perfectly legally bought track as a .wav etc... unless you buy that app as well. All round just too hard at times and inconvenient even after doing the 'right thing'.
Also, your "legally" owned track on ANY download site has conditions, often restricting use to digital format or limited devices etc....
This is from any legitimate, licensed, online music store. Not just iTunes...
For 90% of punters though, the iPod is great.
Cheers.
Any body chasing an Ipod interface that plugs into the back of Discovery11 2000 to 2003 and some 2004 models stereo head units. I have one for sale. Cost $135 but my mistake your gain, $100 posted.
If you have the head unit with tape deck and has at the rear plugs that look like the bottom connector for Grundig here then this unit will fit. It charges the Ipod as well.
I purchased it from here
PM me.
I'm looking at a classic not only for the music but also as a video source for the back seat portable DVDs that the girls have for trips. One device with lots of movies on it beats having to drag a box full of DVDs around anyday.
If you buy it online from Mr Apple you get to pay full price but you do get to have something laser etched on the case for "free".

Sorry, those criticisms don't really pan out.
Anyway, Zunes are great as they offer a good foil to protect your iphone from theft - just dress it up like a Zune and it will be as safe as houses!

If my memory serves me right the classic has an actual hard drive the touch shuffle and Nano use flash memory.
the actual hard drives can be damaged by running or in the case of most users on here bumping around in the 4wd.
I have a 32gb Nano that serves me well with a car kit it entertains me on the long drives between Broken Hill and Sydney
