    Toughbook CF-18

Does anyone know whether a toughbook is upgradable??

My model is, I can't remember processor speed think it's under 1 ghz (not sure whether that's right) and we have just under 1g ram.

I'm pretty sure my model can have up to 2g ram but no point having that with a slow processor.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Well I will be getting a laptop for my self.. I'm not using mine for land rover diagnostics I'm using it for Internet and mapping software.

So if there is a possibility then I will bother.. The laptop has never done anything wrong could just do with being a fraction faster

    Thank stigg

But that is exactly what I'm asking I'm prepared to upgrade it if it's possible the toughbook was not cheap when I brought and have no intention of throwing it away!!
Hence why I'm asking about upgrades and not advice on what I should buy to replace it

I don't have any experience with the toughbooks, but often a RAM increase will speed up a machine.
Really depends on what is causing it to be slow.
If you've got a few programs open (or something that uses a lot of memory), and the processor is having to swap the memory out to hard disk all the time then that processor power isn't available for programs.
In such a case an increase in RAM will reduce the swapping and free up the processor for programs.
I'm assuming its a windows XP machine since its only got 1Gb RAM?

    Yes Steve it's xp

Also I don't intend on doing it myself is was more about finding out if I can so I don't waist my time sending to someone for them to say no

    The RAM can be upgraded.

There's a slot underneath the speaker.

I know an extra 1 gig works way better.

It may even be able to take a 2gig stick. *EDIT* just checked. It won't take 2 gig.

    Don't know about the CPU.

*EDIT* the extra RAM should be all you need to get the machine to a suitable level for what you want to do with it.

someone was selling them on e-bay second hand with upgrades in them when I looked sometime ago. They had put in bigger hard drives GPS chip etc. in some of them. And they were fairly cheap. I would have liked one, but got a cheaper laptop instead.

I've got a CF24M and it may be a bit on the slow side, but I've had it for years and it's never let me down, (touch wood).
