Fair enough, but when I try and download it (which it does automatically) to my Win7 64 bit PC it says it is not the right version...... Maybe the new version does not work in 64 bit?

Might have to take a look at Trend byt the sound of things.

AVG will work with the 64 bit version of Win7, I downloaded and got the message that it's the wrong version (I had downloaded the wrong version, although I think it was identified wrong on their site). If you let the downloader do it for you all is OK.

Ferret's suggestion is worth considering. I now have had 2 of our home laptops using Microsoft's Security Essentials for a few months, and no problems whatsoever.

Why pay for anti-viral protection when MS are now offering a free service? So they should imho.

I used AVG years ago for some time, and got shot as I just wasn't happy with the interface (then).

Moved to Trend Micro for a number of years but found it corrupted a number of my drafting programs, so that was useless to me, albeit a very good program.

But I am now running Avira and I'm VERY happy with it. Highly recommended, after using for just over 4 yrs now.

As far as the Microsoft one, I despise using MS's "bloatware" and behind the scenes monitoring.

    Each to their own....

    Cheers,

Considering MS is the most hacked systems there are, I would imagine the evil hackers will constantly find loop holes and hacks for the Microsoft security.
