    New hard drive, window's error.

    Hi computer guru's, I have just upgraded my 100gb hard drive to a 320gb on my Hp Pavilion 8000 laptop, on installing windows XP (i have to use Xp because there are no drivers for vista) I have come up with a message;

    File ohci 1394.sys caused an unexpected error (32768) at line 5882 in d:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\setup.c

    is there a way around this please???

    No, the old drive works a treat, just to small.

    I am sorry, perhaps I am a nubi to computers and perhaps I should have stated i have a laptop, and I am not sure what or how to clone, I am great full for your suggestions and interest, in theory I should only have to insert the Window's cd and follow the prompts, I can do that, also with the other hard drive there is two Xp instalations and one Vista, I never new about partitions and thought installing just went over the top, so there you go.

    I live on the gold Coast so I am sure I will be able to throw away a couple of hundred dollars to some IT guy, Ouch. I was weighing up the cost of buying the Aldi lap top verse updating my old one, so far only spent $100 on hard drive.

    All the best.

    I take it D: drive is your CD/DVD Drive. You probably have an issue with your CD or the CD drive itself. You'll find you can just install Windows 7 onto the laptop no worries regarding drivers usually. It's much happier out of the box than vista and quicker too. I've upgraded heaps of 5 year old laptops running xp to win 7 and they run great. See if you can "borrow" a Win 7 installer disc from a friend to give it a go.
    Don't get the Aldi special, save and wait for name brand laptops to be sold at JB's or WOW or Harvey's for around $500 if you need a newy. Trust me .... the cheapies can be a world of pain.
