I got it up on windows defender Alert at the moment. Its subject line [if that is the correct term], is, Trojan:win32/Sirefef.O

    And under resources I have:--
    file:
C:windows backslash windows backslash 276132222:....... [did not get to werite down the rest o this line.]

while I was writing this I got a Windows defender alert telling me

"Detected items have been cleaned automatically."

does that mean I am now virus free, and should just reload windows [and an up to date antivirus.]

I was going to download what inc sijjested, but have not done that yet.

But earlier I could not get rid of it through Windows defender

    that is the dropper

it facilitates the rest of the payload being deployed

if it had deployed you would be seeing a new antivirus / anti malware looking program popping up saying you have hundreds of infections

i suggest you may have gotten it in time if you arent seeing that sort of activity

i would suggest you download and run combofix , download it from the bleeping computer link down the page a bit.

I think I got rid of the virus by using combofix--thanks for the suggestion Inc.

will rescan it later. did reload Windows from the built in back up.

My old acer crashed last night, sparking at the broken hinge, so got this going just in time--but lost material on old Acer i was going to post on the "Does God exist" thread.

    Yup!

I think that proves the argument that there is no god quite conclusively!
