    Iphone 3Gs problems

I reported that I was given a 3GS by my son about a year ago.

Yesterday The phone refuses to charge from 3 different chargers including OEM non OEM and car, and USB. Itunes will not detect the phone.

Initially it said on some occasions" this accessory will not charge " etc .

Apart from that the phone works correctly!LOL.

I have thoroughly cleaned the port connector, with contact cleaner, brushes etc several times, and also cleaned the earphone plug.

I have turned it off many times and restored from the phone several times and pulled the SIM and cleaned contacts.
To eliminate the computer I have disconnected and reconnected the Apple communication driver.
I have ordered a new battery and also port assembly.
I have seen some forums that also suggest it may be a fuse on the logic board, but this does not seem to apply to mine as the phone turns on and operates normally. Tonight after I once again did a soft reboot ie both buttons down, it started to charge then immediately turned off again twice in about 1/2 hour.
I guess I am banking on the port being faulty.

Anyone with a similar problem and solution as I think I have now read every damn forum written by 12 year olds on the net ?
    Regards Philip A

    Mine does the same.

At the moment i'm getting mine to charge by only half inserting the USB end of the cable into the power converter.

Takes a bit to get it right, then just leave it there and don't touch.

Also - 3 toggles of the mute button is supposed to reset the charging circuit. Worth a try.

It's use-by date is past. Warranty expired. Contract run out. What part of it's a modern piece of disposable electronic **** don't you understand?

Ah, but I do understnd Bee utey. Thats why I drive an old RRC with no air suspension, no ABS , no sunroof, no power seats, Instead of a modern disposable LR.

I hate to think what problems LR3-4s will have when they are 20 years old seeing the problems seem to be starting to emerge on 5-7 year old ones, like front suspension, electric? handbrakes, 2.7 diesels, auto trans with "lifetime" fluid, aircon that is on all the time and when it goes costs thousands to fix etc
At least an Iphone only costs $399 new and there are lots of parts around. I will comment more when I get the parts and see if I can fix it.

I've had an odd recurring problem with my 3GS .
Sometimes there is no volume bar when playing music and YouTube.
The fix is to plug it into a dock and play a song then remove the iPhone whilst the song is still playing , this gets the volume bar back every time .
    May help someone
