I would not remove Malwarebytes, it protect my LT for malware that MS cannot do it.
More that few times my wife LT was infected by malware that disable the firewall. The only way that I can fix that problem is with Malwarebytes. MS Essentials cannot detect them.
    I use Mozilla Firefox.

    backup your favourites

and then go to control panel -> internet options -> advanced tab -> reset internet explorer settings.

then reboot and see where you are at.

check what version of java you have installed, if it is lower than 7.25 remove it and download the latest from java.com

arthur, malwarebytes used to be an excellent product but now creates so much collateral damage it is one of the first things i remove when trying to get a box back to a stable state so i can clean it up and get it working properly again and the effect is usually immediate.

    exceptions make the rule tho...

I have a suspicion that the answer lies in the IE options.. had a similar problem a while ago, but can't remember what fixed it though.

Chrome needs IE in the background. So the conflict might in the IE settings somewhere. From memory it's something simple.

    And we have success!

First off, since IE is just too slow , I downloaded Firefox. Not bad actually, I would be happy with Chrome or Firefox. But, when you searched for Chrome and clicked on the link, I had the same problem...'Firefox has crashed. Send Report'

See..I told you all it was a conspiracy.

So, using 'Chrome & Firefox has crashed' as search parameters, I came across another fix.

sfc /scannow Type that into the 'Run' window and it compares your computers protected systems files to your original installation CD program files. Others would know more about it than I would. Ran that and now all is fixed. Chrome is working fine.

Anyway, thanks to all of the good people here on AULRO, those who piped up, those who giggled and laughed in the background.

    Another problem completed.

it does have a hit on system behavior so get hold of the portable version if you can or use the slim version.

    CCleaner - Builds

ATF Cleaner is another nice utility you can get from major geeks etc etc.
