It's Microsoft's search engine, for both Interweb searches and also desktop searches. Best removed with large lump hammer, or coffee in the ventilation slots.

Give Bing a go. Google is in the business of ad sales not search. They 'update' their search algo so frequently now that the results they return are rarely consistent. There are more and more people saying that Bing is a better search engine.
