    SSD longevity

    Yeah that is pretty interesting. The only downside to SSD's is that the flash media that they use has a limited number of read and writes.

    yep

    but latest tech is they re flash themselves and the cells come back to new spec and off you go again.

    and HDD dont last forever either.

    SSD life is like 100,000 write cycles
    thats like 15 years if your writing every second of the day.
    most people dont keep drives that long.

    a defrag can use that many

    100,000 write cycles per data cell

    but the new heat and flash stuff automatically regenerates. lifts the cycle to 15 million from memory...

    i need more hot showers!

    Hi Dave,

    Wow, that's really cool. What is the new SSD technology called and where can I read about it. I am looking to buy a SSD shortly so wonder if it is worth waiting for one of these new ones instead.

    Almost as cheap as the old HDD.
