Plasma panel to laptop - oops, I broke it...

    ...Well not completely, but...

    Hi
Just wondered if there's anyone with a bit of wisdom on this:

Kim has a 42" Samsung plasma in her study and being a helpful guy, I thought I would connect up her Compaq Presario so she could stream Series 1 of The Walking Dead (yes, she missed the lot ). In case it is relevant, the model is:
    PS42B450B1D

The laptop only has RGB out, so plugged that in and the panel goes through an 'auto adjust' - nothing too unusual about that and the desktop looks fine displayed on the panel. I ran into an issue routing the audio to the 5.1 HTIB she has, so couldn't continue, however...

Unplug laptop & RGB cable, switch back to Foxtel and uh-oh...everything has a bluish cast. So spend a while in the tv's menu trying reset, playing with red/green balance and anything else I can find, but no luck. Switch to DVD and yep, the OSD that says "Sony Home Theatre" should have white text not blue...

So, the tv's self diagnosis brings up a colour test pattern and all the colours, including white are correct. The text/colours in the tv's menu/OSD are correct, crisp white, no cast.

I assume from this it is not a problem with the panel. Anyone have any experience with this? Any assistance greatly appreciated .

    Cheers

To clarify - is it just the broadcast through the foxtel box which is dodgy?
    (eg normal TV all OK)
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

    Hi Vlad
No, it seems to be on all inputs. E.g free to air has it, Fox has it and while I haven't actually 'played' a DVD, the DVD player home screen has a blue cast on the usually white text that reads 'Sony Home Theatre System".

On that basis I would have said something has been altered/stuffed on the panel, but as I mentioned, the text/colours of the on screen display/menu are correct. So not being completely TV electronics savvy, I assume that the display itself is ok, but maybe the decoding software has been altered somehow?

Seems a bit extreme for just plugging in an RGB cable . I used to do it all the time on my Viera plasma panel with no ill effects.

    Cheers
