    New Computer with W8

Recently bought a new desk top (Aldi cheapie) and it comes with W8.
I am tempted to reformat completely and load W7 to match all my other pc's.

Am I over reacting? Should I just 'master' W8?
    Any thoughts?

    Why bother?

Win 8 is different, that's all. And, like it or not, future Microsoft operating systems will be more like Win 8 than earlier OSs. You'd only be putting off the pain, making it hard to migrate a few years down the track.

Keep in mind Win 8 has been designed to run on underpowered devices, such as phones. This means you will get a performance boost over a Win 7 machine (my desktop with Win 8 and a SSD is up and running in about 15 seconds).

Make sure you update to 8.1 if it hasn't been installed. Win 8 has seen a return of the start button (albeit to the tiles) and boots to the Windows desktop on a PC. If you add shortcuts to the desktop you won't need to go to the tiles.

Win 8 will shut down if you push the PCs power button, not crash as the power is cut. This makes it quick and easy to shutdown.

When you're in the tiles view, just type the name of the program you are looking for - it'll be shown on the screen before you finish typing. Quicker than navigating through the old start menu.

I'd suggest you give Win 8 a proper try for about a month. Then go back and try a Win 7 machine and see if you think it is worth the hassle...

...Oh, and don't forget the trick of right clicking the start button. The context menu is full of all sorts of goodies...

    Never heard of it!
But will google the bejeezus out of it. Where does one obtain said 'start8' for the princely sum of a fiver?
