    Video (action cam) editing software?

In need of some direction here, regarding editing - cutting/shortening/joining bits of video files from my 'Action Cam'.

I'd like to be able to reduce resolution and/or duration, so that I can email snippets. Currently, it takes 5 minute files, each 545Mb @1080p.
Ideally, it would be ideal if I could put 'Picture in Picture', so that I could run two cameras and merge their images in the final result.

Why? - Fatal bite by the Flying Bug. Had my first 'serious' flight today. Want to use it as training / Revision tool.

It's not a GoPro, only $120 or so but so far, everyone who's seen the vision is impressed with the quality. (of the images, not the pilot....)

Question :- Are there any Free apps out there.... - that don't bring along Trojans & other nasties.

Or would I be better off paying money for a 'real' one?

    Thanks !

    Try VirtualDub

Will certainly let you chop and do image stabilisation, but not sure about PIP and resampling.

Yep, tried Freemake... ended up with my browser's homepage hijacked by Bing.

Alas, it seems that most freeware, especially the more complex ones, carry trojans, hi-jackers and other nasty stuff buried within.

    - Looks like lashing out and buying a commercial one.

    Have you considered another option?

Download a Linux distribution (for free).

Download Linux video editing software (for free). Do a search for "linux gopro video editing" or something similar for some suggestions about what to use. eg Video editing software options? - Ask Ubuntu

Run Linux from a USB stick. It doesn't need to be installed on your computer.

That would give you free software without the risk of nasties.

No - all it means is that YOU didn't deselect "Install Bing" and/or other options when installing it!

    Yep.

What about just plain old MS Movie Maker

Or if you want something a bit slicker, NCH VideoPad Video Editor. Free till end of September but watch for the junk installation stuff and make sure you 'option out' (read the fine print at the bottom of the web page).

Never used that product specifically but I do use some of the other NCH video related software and found it to be quite good, for my purposes.

Funny you should say that... #1 Son was rather unsympathetic... mentioned 'YOUR fault for not unchecking boxes...'

anyway, it must be fixed as it does'nt default to bing, AOL or conduit engine....

    Linux has a certain appeal...

We'll see what happens if I can still afford flying lessons.

I moved my FiL over to Linux earlier this year - after a second rebuilt of his system after getting ransomware. He loves it and now won't touch Windoze... which is fine until last week he bought a universal remote control and had to program it with Windoze. Oh well, keeps me off the streets.
