    Value For Money?

Browsing the Aldi website this evening and my interest was piqued by this:
    MEDION?E6416

Any knowledgeable folk care to offer whether it is value for money?
I am looking for a laptop/notebook mainly for MS office stuff, Internet browsing (some adult content *maybe* but predominately not) including some video streaming like youtube etc.
I am not a gamer so, the odd game maybe (I don't even have one to name) but generally not.

I am well aware that this device is not top of the pops, but I can't justify nor need one that is. We already have two gaming desktops and this is for me when traveling or away from home.

I really don't want a tablet, as I want to be able to put it on a table and have some old fashioned functionality.

    Thoughts? Specs? Reviews? Advice?

    Cheers
    Ralph

    This is interesting--

The Intel Pentium 3805U is an entry-level, ULV (ultra low voltage) dual-core processor based on the Broadwell architecture, which has been launched in January 2015. In addition to two CPU cores clocked at 1.9 GHz (no Turbo or Hyper-Threading), the chip also integrates an HD Graphics GPU and a dual-channel DDR3(L)-1600 memory controller. The CPU is manufactured in a 14 nm process with FinFET transistors.
    Architecture
Broadwell represents the "Tick" in Intel's Tick-Tock model, which means a shrink of its predecessor Haswell. The new 14 nm manufacturing process with three-dimensional FinFET transistors allows not only improvements in energy efficiency, but also a significantly smaller die size fit for more compact packages and devices.
Further advantages result from the revised microarchitecture of Broadwell. Due to its improved branch prediction, bigger buffer sizes (1500 instead of 1000 entries in the L2 TL and other tweaks, the performance per clock has been increased by more than 5 percent over its predecessor. There are also some new instruction set extensions designed for cryptographic applications.
    Performance
Thanks to its improved architecture and the slightly higher clock rate, the Pentium 3805U should end up 15 - 20 percent faster than the Pentium 3556U (1.7 GHz, Haswell). Thus, the CPU has sufficient power for office and multimedia purposes as well as most applications.
    Graphics

The integrated HD Graphics (Broadwell) offers 12 Execution Units (EUs) clocked at 100 - 800 MHz. Similar to the CPU core, the GPU architecture (Intel Gen 8) has been thoroughly revised for improved performance-per-clock. We expect the HD Graphics (Broadwell) to beat the HD Graphics (Haswell) (10 EUs) as well as the HD Graphics 4200 (20 EUs), both part of the Haswell generation. Nevertheless, most games as of 2015 should be playable only in very low settings.
Broadwell is the first Intel chip to fully support DirectX 11.2 as well as OpenCL 1.3/2.0 and OpenGL 4.3. Video will output natively via DisplayPort 1.2 or HDMI 1.4a. However, the new HDMI 2.0 standard is not officially supported.
    Power Consumption
The Pentium 3805U is rated at a TDP of 15 W (10 W cTDP Down) including the graphics card, memory controller, VRMs and the integrated chipset. Therefore, the CPU is suited even for small subnotebooks 11-inches and greater.

    Cheers!
I guess that's a good review of the CPU
    I'll take it as one.

Base specs look fine, I would be checking on wifi, Ethernet, USB and DVDS player.

It's what I should have bought rather thana $7000 Dell that lasted two years
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

i used to do a lot of insurance service work on medion gear sold thru aldi..

was always pretty good stuff and never had trouble getting parts etc

the caveat is that the vast majority of their computer gear is great, but their bad ones are really bad, in my experience.
