    Canon Printer compatibility on Windows 10

    Just got a new computer with Windows 10 after putting up with a the slo-mo old unit on Vista. Installed all the drivers and software with no problem and then go to scan some photos with my Canon PIXMA MP480 and it won't work.

    I send an e-mail off to Canon asking if I can get a patch or driver for this and I get back:

    Thank you for contacting Canon Australia.


    Due to a number of factors including design, requirements and age there is no driver suitable for the PIXMA MP480 and your operating system (Windows 10).

    You may try installing the driver for lower versions but there's no guarantee that it'll work. You can download and install it by accessing the link below. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

    For Windows 32-bit

    None of these fixed the problem so I contact them again and get more drivers that don't work then I am told sorry you will need to get another printer.

    I can assure you it won't be a Canon. I can't believe they can't just provide a driver update to get the thing to work. It prints and copies but won't scan.

    You should be able to get a full refund as "unsuitable for the purpose". Have to say I'm surprised as Canon has been my printer of choice for some time having tried several other well known brands.

    I just spoke to the very unfriendly support staff again who could not care less that there is no driver developed for this unit to allow it to scan using Windows 10.

    When I told them it was not fit for purpose and they should at least offer a discount or some incentive to get another Canon product they told me flatly no. They are not going to develop a driver for this and other Canon units that are affected by the upgrade to Windows 10 and they are not offering anything to soften the blow.

    They said I can downgrade to Windows 7 or 8 and it will work or try the drivers they sent me that may work. I told them they knew they wouldn't work. He said I could try. I told him I could try to fly off the roof but that probably wouldn't work either.

    That is the last Canon anything I ever buy.

    I use win 7 and I couldnt get the scanner to work at first. I go to "my computer" it should show the canon
    symbol tap on that and it should show all the different elements you can use then just tap on the scanner and see how you go.

    I'd be having a talk with your state consumer affairs department re a refund - only a phone call away. It would not be unreasonable for any current sale to be expected to work with Windows 10 - at the very least they should be required to advise it does not work with the current Windows offering.

    If nothing works, try using Viewscan software. It solved the same issue of an old HP scanner on a newer Windows.
